Australia: East Coast Roadtrip - Cairns to Melbourne

Here's the short version of our 6 week Cairns to Melbourne road trip:

We missed a few major places (such as Whitsunday Islands, Fraser Island and Phillip Island) due to the weather! We had a rough route down the coast planned, but we mainly relied on searching for things to do in each place we stayed at and using WikiCamps to plan where we would stay - we only used free camp sites (with the exception of one night at a kangaroo rescue centre). 6 weeks was more than enough time to do the journey; we only drove a couple of hours each day on average, but this gave us time to explore some of the lesser-known attractions and some completely off the beaten track which was fun! We'd probably recommend 4 weeks at least if this is your first time travelling the East Coast, but the longer the better!
