We ended up booking our journey to Kampot with James and a couple of others we met on Koh Rong Sanloem, Jess and Aarti (both also from England). We all booked into the Mad Monkey hostel there too as we'd all enjoyed the last few days at the Sanloem hostel. Kampot is a relaxed town by the river. There are lots of pizza restaurants facing the river and several boat cafes serving cocktails. We didn't have too much time to walk around the town but we went out for breakfast one morning and explored a few of the side streets as we were walking back. We also managed to see the Durian roundabout, a roundabout with a statue of the local fruit which causes comtroversy due to its smell! It's actually banned in most hostels because of this.

We rented mopeds for a couple of days (in a group of 7 in total, us 5 plus David from German and Guy from Canada) so we could explore around Kampot. The first day we all headed towards Bokor mountain and saw Lok Yeay Mao statue, Popokvil waterfall and the abandoned church and casino.

The view from behind the church was incredible, although very misty! The abandoned casino is currently being renovated into a hotel so we couldn't stop to explore that unfortunately.

The next day we headed over to the salt flats and did a tour of the pepper farm. Our guide was really informative and we all really enjoyed tasting different types of pepper and seeing how they and several types of fruits grew.

Later that day we headed towards Kep, a small fishing village, where some of us tried freshly caught crab and we went for a quick swim in the sea.

Our final afternoon in Kampot was spent at a nearby hostel and water park on the river, Arcadia. There were a few rope swings and slides but compared to other water parks we had been to in Thailand it wasn't too great, but we met a few people staying at the hostel so it was a sociable afternoon. We also did a yoga class one evening at Simple Things which was good fun! Another evening we managed to potentially end up on live Cambodian television. A concert was taking place in the town and we somehow managed to get quite close to the front and watched a few songs. We had no idea what was going on but it was a great evening!
