Sri Lanka Day 15 & 16: Kandy to Negombo

Our last minute accommodation Richmond Hill Holiday Bungalow (it even sounds fancy, but it’s not actually a bungalow, more of a hotel/guest house) did not disappoint with a good nights sleep and a good breakfast.
We had 2 days spare before our flight and we’ve decided to spend another in Kandy (we managed to arrange another night at the same price at this place!) and the other in Negombo.
Originally we planned to get a tuk tuk to the Botanical Gardens, but we began walking and ended up getting about half way and decided we can walk the rest (5km in total). Being aware of the 1500rs entry fee we were happy to pay, but we couldn’t help but notice that locals were only charged 60rs...

After exploring the gardens for an hour or so, we headed back towards a local Pizza Hut we saw on our way to the gardens.
As most serving suggestions in the UK aren’t too accurate and we had skipped lunch (around 4pm now) we decided to get two medium pizzas which both ‘serve 2’ each. When they arrived we were happy we had ordered two because they were what we would’ve classed as small ‘personal’ pizzas but after getting half way though we started to quickly realise that one between us would’ve sufficed. Either we’ve got used to smaller portions or their ingredients are more filling (probably a mix of both!)
We walked off the large meal by trekking back up the long hill to our hotel (the only downside to the place, but it does give good views...)

On the morning of day 16, we made the most of our comfy bed with a lie in and a late breakfast before packing up again and heading to the bus stop. We arranged a tuk tuk for 350rs to get us to the bus where we sat for 45 minutes before it left, giving us a total of ~4 hours on the bus to get back to Negombo.
We got some dinner in Carlon on our way to Rasika’s house (where we stayed on our first night in Sri Lanka) who greeted us again with friendly smiles and offering tea or coffee.
